The Greater Chennai City Traffic Police has announced major traffic changes due to Chennai Metro Rail's underground construction work on Lattice Bridge (L.B) Road. The affected stretch, from the Indian Oil Petrol Bunk Junction to the L.B. Road-M.G. Road Junction, will be completely closed to traffic from Saturday, June 27, 2026.

Major Traffic Changes Due to Chennai Metro Construction Work
To manage traffic during the construction period, several diversions and temporary road regulations have been introduced.
Buses and heavy vehicles travelling from Thiruvanmiyur towards Thiru.Vi.Ka. Bridge will not be allowed to use the closed section. Instead, they will be diverted at the L.B. Road-M.G. Road Junction and directed through M.G. Road, Shastri Nagar 1st Main Road, and Shastri Nagar 1st Avenue before rejoining L.B. Road.
Similarly, buses and heavy vehicles coming from Besant Nagar will be diverted through 7th Avenue, M.G. Road, Shastri Nagar 1st Main Road, and Shastri Nagar 1st Avenue before continuing towards their destinations.
Vehicles travelling from L.B. Road towards Thiruvanmiyur will also follow a different route. They will move through Shastri Nagar Junction, Shastri Nagar 1st Avenue, 11th Cross Street, 8th Cross Street, 10th Cross Street, and M.G. Road before reaching their destination.
The traffic police have also made temporary changes to road directions. Roads that were previously one-way, including the stretch from Shastri Nagar 1st Main Road to L.B. Road through M.G. Road and the road between Shastri Nagar 1st Avenue and Shastri Nagar 1st Main Road, will now function as two-way roads during the diversion period.
However, Shastri Nagar 1st Main Road will remain a one-way road towards Thiru.Vi.Ka. The bridge, while 11th Cross Street, will operate as a one-way road towards Thiruvanmiyur.
Light motor vehicles and other small vehicles travelling from Thiruvanmiyur towards Thiru.Vi.Ka. The bridge will be diverted through Indira Nagar 2nd Avenue, 1st Main Road, 1st Avenue, and then back to L.B. Road near the Indian Oil Petrol Bunk Junction before continuing their journey.
To ensure smooth traffic flow and improve safety, heavy vehicles will not be allowed to use Indira Nagar 2nd Avenue during the diversion period. Motorists have been advised to follow the revised traffic routes and cooperate with the traffic police to avoid delays.
