Residents of Tamil Nadu and Kerala experienced a welcome relief from the scorching heat as parts of both states received rainfall on Friday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier forecasted that from April 11 to 15, regions in Telangana, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal would witness light to moderate rainfall accompanied by strong winds.

Reports from Friday revealed that rain showers blessed various areas of Thiruvananthapuram city, providing a much-needed break from the relentless heat. Similarly, in Tamil Nadu, cities like Kumbakonam and Madurai were also treated to mild showers. Earlier predictions by the Regional Meteorological Centre had suggested the possibility of moderate rain in 13 districts of Tamil Nadu, including Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli, and Tenkasi. The rainfall, according to the RMC in Chennai, was attributed to a weather phenomenon known as "Yesterday's trough/wind discontinuity," which stretched from cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan to Coastal Karnataka across Gujarat & Konkan at 0.9 km above mean sea level.
The IMD further stated that light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning could be expected at a few places over south Tamil Nadu. In Chennai, the sky condition is predicted to be partly cloudy with a maximum temperature reaching around 35°C, while the minimum temperature is expected to range between 26-27°C, according to the IMD.
The rainfall comes as a relief to residents and farmers in the region, offering hope for agricultural activities and easing the discomfort caused by the scorching summer temperatures. It also serves as a reminder of the significance of monsoon rains in replenishing water resources and supporting ecosystems in the region.
While the rainfall brings respite, it's essential for residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms and lightning. Taking necessary precautions and staying updated with weather forecasts can help ensure safety during such weather events.
Overall, the rainfall brings a welcome change in weather patterns, providing relief from the intense heat and contributing to the well-being of communities in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
