Amidst mounting excitement, pilgrims eagerly await the opening of the revered portals of three Himalayan shrines - Badrinath Dham, Kedarnath Dham, and Gangotri Dham, heralding the start of Uttarakhand's Char Dham Yatra pilgrimage.

Scheduled for May 12 at 6 AM, the doors of Sri Badrinath Dham will swing open to devotees. Just two days earlier, on May 10 at 7 AM, Shri Kedarnath Dham will follow suit, beckoning pilgrims from across the nation. The auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya will mark the opening of the gates of Shri Gangotri Dham, the holy abode where the Ganga River originates. Perched amidst the majestic Himalayas, Gangotri stands tall at an elevation of 20 ft, boasting intricate carvings on white granite. The region, blanketed in snow between December and March, captivates pilgrims with its serene beauty.
The Char Dham Yatra, encompassing the pilgrimage to the four sacred sites of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri, holds immense spiritual significance in Hinduism. This arduous journey typically spans from April/May to October/November, dictated by weather conditions. The Himalayan temples, visited by millions annually, remain closed during the winter months due to heavy snowfall.
Devotees embark on this transformative journey seeking spiritual cleansing and divine blessings. Ajendra Ajay, Chairman of the Badrinath-Kedarnath temple committee, has revealed plans to allocate sufficient funds in the upcoming budget to enhance passenger facilities, aiming to accommodate a larger number of devotees this year.
