Chennai is set to experience significant changes in its train services on April 1 and April 2, 2024, due to a mega block at Chennai Central station for the conversion of points. The Southern Railway has announced alterations in the patterns of numerous train services, affecting passengers and daily commuters. Some trains will be diverted, while others will have their journeys either short terminated or their destinations changed.

Key Service Alterations
Among the notable changes, Train No. 13352 Alappuzha Dhanbad Express and Train No. 12512 Kochuveli - Gorakhpur Raptisagar Express, both departing in the early hours of April 2, 2024, will bypass Dr MGR Chennai Central. They will be rerouted via Perambur. To assist passengers, an additional stop at Perambur has been arranged for these trains, with the former stopping between 11:00 and 11:10 and the latter between 23:00 and 23:15.
Similarly, Train No. 22645 Indore Kochuveli Superfast Express and Train No. 13351 Dhanbad Alappuzha Express, departing on April 1, 2024, will also avoid stopping at Dr MGR Chennai Central and instead pass through Perambur. These trains, too, will offer an additional stop at Perambur for traveler convenience.

Adjustments in Train Termination Points
Regarding terminations, the Erode Dr MGR Chennai Central Yercaud Express (Train No. 22650) and the KSR Bengaluru - Dr MGR Chennai Central Mail Express (Train No. 12658) will both end their journeys at Avadi, instead of the usual stop at Chennai Central on April 2, 2024.
Changes are also afoot for services traditionally originating or terminating at Dr MGR Chennai Central. For instance, the Dr MGR Chennai Central - KSR Bengaluru Mail Express (Train No. 12657) will now start from Chennai Beach at its scheduled departure time on April 2, 2024. Similarly, the Howrah Dr MGR Chennai Central Mail (Train No. 12839) will be diverted and conclude its service at Chennai Beach on April 1, 2024.
Moreover, the Dr MGR Chennai Central Shalimar Coromondel Express (Train No. 12842) and the Dr MGR Chennai Central Erode Yercaud Express (Train No. 22649) will originate from Chennai Beach and Chennai Egmore, respectively, on April 3, 2024, marking a change from their regular starting points.
Service Modification at Tiruvallur
The Alappuzha Dr MGR Chennai Central Superfast Express (Train No. 22640), scheduled to depart from Alappuzha at 15:20 on April 2, 2024, will now be short terminated at Tiruvallur. This alteration signifies a partial cancellation of its journey between Tiruvallur and Dr MGR Chennai Central.
These temporary adjustments are crucial for passengers planning to travel on the affected dates. Travelers are advised to take note of these changes to ensure smooth and convenient journeys. The Southern Railway's efforts to improve infrastructure at Chennai Central station underline their commitment to enhancing passenger experience and safety.
