The Bihar government has mandated that residents must update their mobile numbers and addresses linked to vehicle registrations and driving licences (DL). The Transport Department issued this directive to all District Transport Officers (DTOs), warning that non-compliance will result in fines and potential suspension of both registration and DL.

Transport Secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal announced a one-month deadline for drivers to update their mobile numbers on the Vahan and Sarathi portals. After this period, if the data remains outdated, the department will take action against the concerned drivers or vehicle owners.
Updating Information Online
The Transport Department has made it easier for drivers to update their mobile numbers online. For vehicle registration updates, drivers can visit the Transport website (parivahan.gov.in). For driving licence updates, they should use the Sarathi portal (sarathi.parivahan.gov.in).
According to Section 49 of the Motor Vehicles Act, vehicle owners must inform the competent authority of any change in their address within 30 days. Non-compliance will lead to action as per the rules.
Consequences of Outdated Information
The department highlighted that many drivers have outdated mobile numbers and addresses linked to their vehicle registration and DL. This creates difficulties in identifying vehicle owners or drivers in cases of accidents or other incidents. Additionally, e-challan notifications for traffic violations are not received due to outdated mobile numbers.
For assistance with updating information, drivers can contact the Transport Department's helpdesk at 06122547212 during office hours.
The Bihar government is taking these steps to ensure accurate records and improve communication with vehicle owners. This initiative aims to streamline processes and enhance safety on the roads by ensuring that all contact information is current.
