The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has taken an important step forward in building the second metro corridor in Lucknow by announcing a major construction tender worth ₹492.22 crore. This tender was floated for the design and construction of five elevated metro stations along part of the new line,

marking the start of Phase 1B of the city's metro network expansion.
Elevated Section of Metro Track
The project includes building an elevated section of the metro track that will stretch about 4.6 kilometres from Thakurganj to Vasantkunj. Along this elevated path, five new stations, Thakurganj, Balaganj, Sarfarazganj, Musabagh, and Vasantkunj, will be constructed. A 740-metre ramp will also be built to connect the elevated section to the metro depot. The work covers a wide range of construction tasks, including the basic structure, architectural finishes, water and drainage systems, fire protection arrangements, and full electrical and mechanical installations.
Aim of Uttar Pradesh Metro
UPMRC aims to complete the elevated stations and viaduct within 30 months from the contract commencement date. The tender documents were made available online starting January 1, and companies interested in bidding must submit their proposals by February 2. A pre-bid meeting will be held virtually on January 12 so potential bidders can ask questions, and technical bids will be opened on February 3.
Only companies with strong financial standing and experience in large infrastructure projects will be eligible to bid. The tender also emphasises the 'Make in India' policy, requiring bidders to indicate how much local content will be used, giving preference to suppliers with at least 50 per cent local value. There are also clauses addressing security rules for companies from countries sharing land borders with India.
