The much-awaited Namma Metro Pink Line in Bengaluru has faced another delay, this time because of a shortage of train rakes. This issue is likely to push the line's opening by nearly five more months, making commuters wait even longer. The Kalena Agrahara-Nagawara corridor, which is 21.25 km long,

was first planned to open in 2020, but the deadline has been postponed several times, first to late 2025, then to March 2026, and now to May 2026. Although the elevated part of the line is ready, no train sets have arrived for trial runs yet, according to a report by Bangalore Mirror.
Namma Metro Pink Line Facing Another Delay
Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) is responsible for supplying 318 Metro coaches to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), but none have been delivered so far. Out of these, 96 coaches are meant for the Pink Line and the rest for the Blue Line. The prototype train is expected by December 2025, followed by testing and safety checks that will take around two months. Since at least three trains are needed to start services, the line is unlikely to open before mid-2026.
Pink Line To Be The Slowest Metro Project
The Pink Line has 18 stations and is one of the slowest Metro projects in Bengaluru, progressing at only 2.5 km per year. It includes a 7.5 km elevated section (Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere) and a 13 km underground section from Dairy Circle to Nagawara, and the underground part may open only by December 2026.
Construction delays happened earlier when the initial contractor, Simplex Infra, completed only 37% of the work before its contract was cancelled in 2021. GR Infraprojects later finished the rest on time. Even though the structure is ready, without the trains, the Pink Line remains incomplete, keeping Bengaluru's commuters waiting for smoother travel.
