Local auto drivers in Bengaluru are teaming up to introduce theme-based "Tourist Autos," aiming to provide personalized local tour services and boost tourism in the city. Recognizing the challenges faced by tourists navigating Bengaluru's bustling streets, these drivers aim to showcase the city's cultural richness and vibrant attractions.

Uma Shankar, an auto driver at Cubbon Park Auto Stand, highlighted the need for such services, noting that many tourists struggle to explore Bengaluru independently, often missing out on its hidden gems. By offering guided tours, the drivers can ensure that visitors experience the city's tourist attractions with customized route maps. Bengaluru, often dubbed the Silicon Valley of India, attracts tourists from far and wide due to its diverse cultural heritage, bustling markets, and lively nightlife.
The Tourist Auto service offers low-cost guided tours starting from prominent landmarks like Vidhana Soudha, Raj Bhavan, and Bengaluru Palace, culminating at Cubbon Park, with fares starting from just Rs 100. Additionally, drivers are offering trips to popular destinations like Lalbagh Botanical Garden, with fares varying based on the route.
Manjunath, president of the Adarsha Auto Union, acknowledged the challenges in implementing the Tourist Auto concept due to limited government support. Despite this, drivers remain enthusiastic about the initiative, driven by a desire to support their families while showcasing the city's attractions to visitors. To address navigation issues, the union plans to introduce theme-based Tourist Autos adorned with cultural imagery and landmarks, making them easily recognizable to tourists. Equipped with amenities like water bottles, newspapers, magazines, and customized route maps with feedback mechanisms, these autos aim to provide a seamless and enjoyable touring experience.
In the initial phase, the union plans to launch 50 Tourist Autos in the city, with a vision to expand the fleet further. With this initiative, Bengaluru's auto drivers hope to not only cater to the needs of tourists but also contribute to the city's thriving tourism industry, fostering memorable experiences for visitors from around the world.
