Bengaluru Yellow Alert

The weather department issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru and nearby regions till Thursday due to the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. According to IMD, Bengaluru may record temperatures between 23 degrees Celsius and 35 degrees Celsius during this period.

Bengaluru Rains

Recently, several parts of Bengaluru received rainfall overnight from Sunday to Monday. Around 157 civic wards in the city reported light rain. Despite these showers, Bengaluru Urban has received very little pre-monsoon rainfall so far in 2026. IMD data showed that the district recorded a rainfall deficit of 85.8 percent till April 19. The area received only 5.6 mm of rain compared to the normal average of 40 mm for the month.

List of Districts to Experience Rainfall

The weather department has also predicted rainfall in districts such as Davangere, Chitradurga, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Mysuru, Kodagu, and Chamarajanagar over the next two days. Residents in these regions have been advised to stay alert. IMD has also forecast rain in Kolar, Bengaluru, Tumakuru, Chikkaballapur, Hassan, Mandya, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Haveri, Vijayapura, Uttara Kannada, and Vijayanagara districts.

Reason behind the Weather System

IMD Bengaluru Director N Puviarasan said that different weather systems are responsible for the strong pre-monsoon showers in the region. He explained that thunderstorms and rising temperatures are normal during this season. IMD also said that a low-pressure area has formed over the southwest and west-central Bay of Bengal, while an upper-air cyclonic circulation is active over parts of Tamil Nadu and nearby regions, leading to changing weather conditions.
