Bengaluru has been experiencing an unusual cold spell, with temperatures dropping significantly due to the effects of Cyclone Fengal, which recently struck Tamil Nadu. The city saw its maximum temperature fall to 22.6°C, which is 4.8°C below normal. Nights were also colder than usual, with the temperature dipping to 20.3°C, 3.1°C below the average for this time of year.

Residents have started layering up to combat the sudden chill, as the weather remains cool and cloudy. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru can expect similar conditions in the coming days. Daytime temperatures are predicted to stay below 25°C, while nights will hover between 20°C and 21°C.
Predictions for the Coming Days
The IMD has forecast light rainfall and partly cloudy skies until December 6. These conditions are likely to persist, with a gradual decline in temperatures as winter approaches. Dr. N Puviarasan, head of IMD Bengaluru, explained that the cyclone's aftermath is causing the cool weather. The city is currently under complete cloud cover, which prevents temperatures from rising during the day.
Light to moderate rainfall is expected in some parts of Bengaluru until December 5. Following this wet spell, colder air from north interior Karnataka is anticipated to sweep into the region, signaling the full arrival of winter. Dr. Puviarasan added that the northeast winds from the Bay of Bengal are currently influencing the city's weather, but their weakening after December 15 will pave the way for typical winter conditions.

A Preview of Bengaluru's Winter
With daytime temperatures forecasted to stay between 24°C and 25°C for the next few days, Bengaluru residents can look forward to the start of winter. The expected shift in wind patterns and the arrival of colder air will make the nights even chillier.
This cooling trend marks a seasonal change, and weather experts believe the city will fully transition into winter by mid-December. Until then, locals are advised to stay warm and prepare for the colder months ahead.
The sudden chill in Bengaluru is a reminder of the wide-reaching effects of Cyclone Fengal. While Tamil Nadu bore the brunt of the storm, its aftermath has left Bengaluru cooler than usual, offering residents an early glimpse of winter.
