Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has unveiled a bold vision to modernize transportation in India's busiest cities, offering commuters a much-needed break from frustrating traffic jams and long travel times. With innovative solutions such as aerial pods and flash-charging electric buses, the plan promises a faster and more efficient travel experience for residents of cities like Delhi and Bengaluru.

Aerial Pods: A New Way to Travel
Delhi's Dhaula Kuan-Manesar route is infamous for its heavy congestion, leaving daily commuters stuck in long, slow-moving traffic. To tackle this issue, Gadkari shared plans for an elevated pod transport system along this route. "We want to start a pod system in the air from Dhaula Kuan to Manesar because there is a lot of traffic on this road," he told ANI. Bengaluru, a city where traffic nearly comes to a standstill during rain, is also being considered for a similar system.
Pods are small, driverless electric vehicles that travel on elevated tracks, functioning like personal taxis that take passengers directly to their destinations without stops. Each pod comfortably fits five to six passengers, providing a convenient and modern solution for urban travel.
Double-Decker Buses for Hilly Regions
The government's vision also includes high-tech double-decker buses designed to improve connectivity in mountainous regions such as Uttarakhand and Kashmir. These buses will connect two mountains, making travel easier for people in remote areas.
Revolutionary Electric Buses
Nagpur has already seen a breakthrough in public transport with the introduction of flash-charging electric buses. These executive-class buses, equipped with 135 seats and onboard TVs, can travel at speeds of up to 120 km/h. A unique feature of these buses is their ability to stop every 40 kilometers for a quick 30-second recharge, reducing reliance on large batteries and making the system more cost-effective.
Affordable and Efficient Public Transport
The new electric buses will offer fares that are 30% cheaper than diesel buses, making them a budget-friendly choice for daily commuters. After a successful trial run in Nagpur, the government plans to introduce these buses on routes such as Delhi-Jaipur, Delhi-Dehradun, Bangalore-Chennai, Mumbai-Nashik, and Pune.
