The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a noticeable drop in Bengaluru's temperatures over the coming days, signaling cooler weather after the warmer spell during Makar Sankranti. On Friday, January 17, the city's minimum temperature is expected to reach 14.3 degrees Celsius. Over the weekend and into early next week, from January 17 to 19, Bengaluru's minimum temperature is forecasted to remain steady at around 16 degrees Celsius.

This cooling trend is not limited to Bengaluru. The IMD reports that interior Karnataka will also experience a temperature drop of 2-3 degrees Celsius from January 17 to 22, 2025.
Past Cold Spells and Historical Records
Earlier this January, Bengaluru witnessed a particularly cold spell, with temperatures plummeting to 12 degrees Celsius. This was part of a larger cold wave and fog conditions that affected northern India. According to IMD records, Bengaluru's coldest temperature ever was 7.8 degrees Celsius, recorded on January 13, 1884. This historical data underscores the city's potential for significant temperature changes.
Weather Updates Across India
While Bengaluru braces for cooler weather, other parts of India are also experiencing seasonal shifts. Northern states like Jammu-Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh are expected to see light rain and snowfall in the coming days. Additionally, dense fog and cold wave conditions are predicted for Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and the Delhi-NCR region. These variations reflect the diverse climatic patterns occurring across the country during this time of year.
Infrastructure Developments in Bengaluru
Amid these weather changes, Bengaluru is also making strides in improving its infrastructure. The KSR Railway Station is set to introduce two new platforms to enhance its transportation facilities. Furthermore, the Bengaluru Namma Metro has identified land for a new depot along the Hebbal-Sarjapur Metro Line. These developments aim to improve connectivity and ease urban transportation, making daily commutes smoother for residents.
Preparing for the Chill
As Bengaluru residents prepare for colder days, it's a good time to bring out warm clothing and take measures to stay comfortable. The IMD advises staying informed about daily weather updates to plan accordingly.
Bengaluru's cooler weather highlights the seasonal shifts happening across the country. With ongoing infrastructure enhancements and IMD's accurate weather predictions, the city is poised to manage both climatic and developmental changes effectively.
