Bengaluru’s Kengeri Railway Station Gets a New Entry to Ease Travel

Kengeri railway station in Bengaluru is getting major upgrades to make travel easier for passengers. One of the most important changes is the construction of a second entry, which is expected to open by May. This development is part of the Amrit Bharat station scheme, with nearly Rs 20 crore being spent to improve the station. The second entry will be very helpful for people traveling to and from Mysuru, as Kengeri is an important stop for many daily commuters.

Shorter Distance for Easier Access

Currently, passengers using cabs or heavy vehicles must take a longer route of 1.5 km to reach the station's main entrance. With the new entry, they will only need to travel 500 metres, making it much easier and faster to reach the station. Officials believe this will benefit around 20,000 passengers who use the station daily, as it provides a more direct and smooth entry.

Krishna Chaitanya, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of the Bengaluru Division, explained that Kengeri railway station is classified as a Non Suburban Group-3 station. He also shared that the station records high ticket sales every day. "We have ticket reservations worth Rs 1.44 lakh and unreserved ticket sales of Rs 4.21 lakh daily," he said. He further added that the new entry will improve the movement of people between the Metro and railway stations, making commuting more comfortable.

Better Facilities for Passengers

A new approach road through the Railway Colony is being built to replace the risky trolley path that pedestrians currently use. This is part of the larger effort to improve the station's safety and infrastructure. Other new facilities being introduced include:

- A waiting hall for passengers
- A ramp for people with disabilities
- A large parking area for two-wheelers and four-wheelers
- A cafeteria for travelers

Officials report that 60% of the work is already complete, and the project is progressing quickly.

Important Trains Stopping at Kengeri

Kengeri railway station is a busy travel hub, with 58 trains stopping here daily in both directions. Some of the key trains that halt at this station include:

- Chamundi Express
- Malgudi Express
- Vishwamanava Express
- Mysuru to Bengaluru MEMU (66553/66554)
- Chamarajanagar-Tirupati Express

These trains make Kengeri an essential link in the region's transport system.

Commuters Look Forward to the New Entry

Regular passengers and local residents are excited about the new entry. Sripad Ullas, a final-year BTech student, said that many students like him, who travel between Hyderabad or Mysuru and Bengaluru, will benefit. He also pointed out that cab users will save a lot of time since they currently need to take a long detour via Kengeri Upanagar to reach the main entrance. Many passengers even take an unauthorized 700-metre walk to reach the station quickly, showing how important the new entry is.

The second entry at Kengeri railway station will make travel easier and more convenient for thousands of passengers. With better infrastructure, shorter routes, and new facilities, the station will soon offer a smoother experience for daily commuters and visitors. The project's completion will also strengthen the connection between the Metro and the railway station, making Bengaluru's transport network even more efficient.
