A new chapter of innovation has begun in Bengaluru. The Karnataka government, together with Bengaluru Airport City Ltd (BACL) and global tech firm ANSR, has launched District I at Bengaluru Airport City. This massive global innovation hub is set to bring startups, IT companies, academic institutions, and public organisations into one shared space where they can work and grow together.

The goal is simple yet powerful - to build a strong, connected community that promotes new ideas and technologies, while boosting Bengaluru's image as a world leader in tech and innovation.
A Hub for Future Technologies
District I will be spread across 28 million square feet. It will focus on advanced technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, blockchain, and customer experience (CX). These technologies will be applied in areas where Bengaluru already has strong roots - aerospace, smart cities, space, defence, retail, telecom, and banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI).
This hub is not just about buildings and offices. It's about building connections. It's designed to help startups take off, help researchers turn their ideas into real products, and give big companies a place to work together with fresh minds.
Support for Startups and Job Creation
BACL CEO Rao Munukutla shared that the aim of District I is to shift the mindset from job-seeking to job-creating. The space will offer world-class infrastructure, tools, and support systems to encourage people to become entrepreneurs and problem-solvers.
Lalit Ahuja, the CEO of ANSR, said that District I will help redraw the global innovation map. By bringing together everyone involved in technology - from businesses to students to government - the hub will make tech development smoother, faster, and more effective.
Smart, Green and Global
Bengaluru Airport City already features modern tech like a 3D printing unit and a central kitchen. The area is being designed as a smart zone that runs on renewable energy and supports the United Nations' sustainable development goals. This matches the larger vision of building a smart and green urban environment for the future.
Ekroop Caur from the state's Department of Electronics, IT, BT and S\&T said this project will make Bengaluru even more important in India's tech growth. It will create jobs, support new inventions, and help the country move forward in the tech world.
BACL, a part of Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), is leading the development of District I. The project is expected to boost Bengaluru's global reputation while playing a key role in shaping India's innovation journey.
