Bengaluru Rain Alert

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru and many interior parts of Karnataka for the next three days. An orange alert has also been announced for some areas of South Interior Karnataka for the next 24 hours due to expected heavy rain and thunderstorms. According to the forecast, Bengaluru is likely to receive rain and thunderstorms on Tuesday, May 19. On Wednesday, May 20, the city may experience heavy rainfall along with gusty winds and thunderstorms. The weather department said pre-monsoon rain activity is expected to continue across Karnataka in the coming days.

List of Districts to Witness Rainfall

The IMD has also predicted rainfall in districts such as Chitradurga, Davangere, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Mysuru, and Chamarajanagar over the next two days. Thunderstorms and showers are also expected in several other districts, including Kolar, Tumakuru, Hassan, Udupi, Dharwad, and Belagavi.

Reason behind the Weather Change

IMD Bengaluru Director N Puviarasan explained that multiple weather systems are causing the heavy rain and thunderstorms. A low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal, while cyclonic circulations are active near coastal Tamil Nadu and Vidarbha. These systems are helping pre-monsoon showers and are also supporting the advance of the southwest monsoon.

According to IMD rainfall data, Bengaluru has received 175 mm of rainfall since March 1, which is 70 mm above normal levels. However, the HAL airport region recorded lower-than-average rainfall during the same period.
