The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is working hard to fix technical problems related to the National Common Mobility Cards (NCMC), which are used for traveling on the Namma Metro. These issues started after RBL Bank, the provider of these cards, changed its vendor. As a result, many metro passengers could not recharge or use their NCMC cards properly.

To help affected users, BMRCL has started giving out contactless Namma Metro cards free of charge. The balance from the NCMC cards is being transferred to the new cards without charging any extra fee. This has been done to make sure commuters face no trouble while traveling.
Around 1,000 passengers have been visiting metro stations daily to report issues with their NCMC cards. Due to this, BMRCL has temporarily stopped distributing NCMC cards at stations. Officials are working to fix the backend system problems, and they plan to resolve all issues by April 15.
A BMRCL official said that not many people use NCMC cards compared to contactless smart cards, tokens, or QR codes. However, the organization still wants to make sure all passengers have a smooth travel experience. "A section of NCMC cardholders is facing the problem, and we have been informed that the matter will be resolved by April 15," the official said, as reported by the Times of India.
Plans for the Pink Line of Namma Metro
While handling the NCMC issue, BMRCL has also shared an update on the new Pink Line of Namma Metro. The full 21.25-kilometre Pink Line, which connects Kalena Agrahara (Gottigere) to Nagawara, will now be opened in stages instead of all at once.
The first part of the line, covering 13.92 kilometres, is expected to open by December 2025. This section includes twelve stations-six underground and six elevated. The entire Pink Line is likely to be ready by the end of 2026.
The Pink Line is expected to help reduce traffic jams in important parts of Bengaluru. Once the first phase is open, it will save travel time for many people and improve the city's public transport system.
BMRCL is taking quick steps to fix the NCMC card issues while also moving ahead with the metro's expansion. With the new Pink Line on the way and smoother travel options, Bengaluru's metro services are set to become even better in the coming years.
