BMRCL Plans Four-Minute Train Frequency Across All Lines Within Two Years, Boosting Bengaluru Metro

The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is preparing for a major upgrade to its services. The corporation has announced that it plans to run trains every four minutes on all operational metro lines within the next two years. This move is expected to make metro travel faster, more comfortable,

and far more convenient for daily commuters. With shorter waiting times, passengers will experience less crowding and quicker journeys across the Namma Metro network.

Increased Number of Trains

To achieve this goal, BMRCL is increasing the number of trains in its fleet and finalising new agreements for additional coaches. The corporation is also working to speed up the delivery timelines for the new train sets so the four-minute frequency can be implemented as early as possible.

Six New Driverless Trains for the Yellow Line

As part of this expansion plan, BMRCL has signed a new contract with BEML to procure six fully driverless train sets for the Yellow Line. These new trains are expected to arrive by 2027 and will play an important role in handling the rising number of passengers on the route. The total value of the contract is ₹414 crore for 36 coaches.

Yellow Line Connection

The Yellow Line, which connects RV Road and Bommasandra, passes through major IT parks, industries, and residential areas. In the future, the line will be extended from Bommasandra to Attibele, and for that stretch, BMRCL estimates that around 10 to 12 additional trains will be required to maintain smooth operations.

At present, the Yellow Line runs with five train sets, and the sixth is expected to begin service next month. Currently, the frequency stands at 15 minutes. With the addition of the sixth train, the waiting time is likely to drop to about 12 minutes, marking the first step towards the long-term target of four-minute intervals.
