Milan Road Buildtech has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for an important civil construction contract related to the proposed extension of the Bengaluru Metro's Purple Line beyond Whitefield. The company has quoted ₹64.82 crore for the project to improve metro connectivity in eastern parts of Bengaluru. The contract has
been invited by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) as part of plans to extend the existing metro network and provide better connectivity to growing residential and commercial areas around Whitefield.
Bengaluru Metro's Whitefield Extension
The Whitefield area has developed rapidly over the past few years and has become one of Bengaluru's major technology and employment hubs. The Purple Line already connects Whitefield with several important parts of the city. However, increasing passenger demand has created a need for further expansion of the metro network.
Milan Road Buildtech's L1 position means that its bid was the lowest among the companies that participated in the tender. However, being the lowest bidder does not automatically mean that the contract has been finally awarded. BMRCL will have to complete the required technical and financial evaluation before issuing the final work order.
The ₹64.82 crore contract is expected to cover civil construction works associated with the Whitefield Metro extension. Such works generally include construction of structures and other supporting infrastructure required for the metro corridor.
The extension is expected to strengthen public transport connectivity in and around Whitefield. It could also help reduce dependence on private vehicles and ease traffic congestion on some of the busy roads in eastern Bengaluru.
The project is part of Bengaluru's larger effort to expand its metro network and make public transportation more convenient for residents. Once completed, the Whitefield extension is expected to provide commuters with an additional rapid transit option and support the city's growing transport requirements.
