Namma Metro has invited tenders to build a 2.5-metre-wide travelator along with a walkway to connect the Yellow and Blue metro lines at Central Silk Board Junction, making it easier for passengers to move between the two lines at this busy interchange point.

Bengaluru Metro Releases Tenders
On Saturday, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) released tenders for the civil, structural, and architectural work of the project. The estimated cost of the work is around Rs 58.99 crore, and the construction is expected to be completed within nine months. The last date to submit bids is April 28, and the bids will be opened on May 5.
Silk Board Junction as an Interchange Metro Station
Silk Board Junction, located in southern Bengaluru, will serve as an elevated interchange metro station. The Yellow Line station at this junction started operations in August 2025, while the Blue Line station is still under construction. Since the two stations are about 250 metres apart, the travelator is necessary to help passengers move easily between them.
Construction to Begin in May 2026
However, considering that the construction of the travelator may start around May 2026 and take nine months to complete, it may not be ready by the time the 19.75-km stretch of the Blue Line from Silk Board Junction to KR Puram is expected to open in December. Although passengers may have to leave one station initially and walk through busy traffic areas to reach the other line, this could be inconvenient.
Installation Plan of Elevators & Escalators
Earlier, during the "Smart Lift and Mobility World 2026" event in February, BMRCL Director (Rolling Stock and Electricals) Sumit Bhatnagar mentioned that the metro authority plans to install around 500 elevators and 1,000 escalators as part of the Pink and Blue line expansions, covering about 78 km. He emphasized that as the metro network expands, the need for smooth passenger movement at interchange stations will become increasingly important.
