The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has awarded a contract for extending the Purple Line beyond the existing Whitefield Metro station in Bengaluru, involving the extension of Reach-1B of Bangalore Metro Phase 2 by 482.80 metres.
Bengaluru Metro's Contract for Purple Line Extension
The contract has a value of around Rs 64.82 crore. The tender was floated by BMRCL in June 2026 for the construction of the 482.80-metre extension. Seven bidders participated in the tender process, and the contract was awarded in September 2026. The project has a scheduled completion period of 548 days. The proposed extension will take the Purple Line beyond the present Whitefield Metro station, part of Reach-1B of the Bangalore Metro Rail Project, which involves extending the metro viaduct beyond the existing station to improve train operations in this section.
The tender documents put the estimated value of the work at Rs 62.51 crore, while the contract value reported after the bidding process is around Rs 64.82 crore. BMRCL had invited bids through an open tender, with the work classified under civil works and specifically involving viaduct construction.
How will Bengaluru Metro's Purple Line Extension Benefit Passengers?
As the existing Whitefield section is an important part of Bengaluru's east-west metro connectivity, linking the area with other parts of the city, the extension is expected to provide additional operational flexibility for trains running on the Purple Line. The tender for the project was published on June 1, 2026, and bids were submitted in July. The contract award was recorded on September 17, 2026. Once completed, the additional 482.80-metre stretch will extend the metro infrastructure beyond Whitefield and support smoother train operations on Reach-1B.
