The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is set to introduce a new double-decker metro line as part of its Namma Metro Phase 3 expansion. This project is a major upgrade to the city's public transportation system, aimed at improving connectivity and reducing traffic congestion. After the success of the double-decker flyover between Ragigudda and Silk Board, the focus has now shifted to the metro line, with construction expected to begin soon.

The Phase 3 expansion plan includes the construction of double-decker flyovers across three major corridors in Bengaluru. This will change the way people commute, offering smoother travel with elevated paths, metro stations, ramps, and road infrastructure. The routes for this development include stretches from JP Nagar 4th Stage to Kempapura, and from Hosahalli to Kadabagere. Additional infrastructure improvements such as a new depot, a skywalk, and a multi-modal transport hub will also be built, especially near Peenya and Summanahalli.
The rollout of this project will happen in phases, with the tender process for the design phase already started. The entire construction phase is divided into three parts to ensure a smooth implementation. These double-decker structures are expected to become iconic landmarks, transforming Bengaluru's urban landscape and easing the daily commute for thousands of residents.
A crucial step for this development is the acquisition of land. The metro line will span 44.65 kilometers, requiring the acquisition of about 299 properties along the identified routes. This step is vital for making way for the new metro line, marking a significant move towards better transportation infrastructure in the city.
The central and state governments are working together to fund the project. The central government is providing funds for the central metro line, while the state government is covering the costs for the double-decker flyovers. This joint funding effort highlights the importance of the project in addressing the growing transportation needs of Bengaluru.
As the city prepares for these changes, excitement among residents is building. The new double-decker metro line, part of the Namma Metro Phase 3 expansion, promises to be a game-changer in Bengaluru's transportation system. It will not only ease traffic but also provide an efficient, reliable way for people to travel, making life in the city more convenient and enjoyable.
