Just two days after a major technical problem disrupted services on Bengaluru's Namma Metro Purple Line, another issue affected the same route on Thursday evening. This time, a train developed a door malfunction near Cubbon Park Metro Station, causing delays and inconvenience to hundreds of commuters.

Bengaluru Metro Purple Line Services Affected
Passengers said the problem occurred at Cubbon Park station when the train's doors failed to work properly. They were stuck in the train for more than 20 minutes, including while it remained inside a tunnel. According to commuters, the doors kept opening and closing repeatedly, preventing the train from moving.
Passengers Faced Inconvenience
Many passengers complained about long waiting times at stations. A commuter travelling in the affected train said services towards Challaghatta were delayed from around 7.40 pm. Crowds quickly built up at several stations, including Vidhana Soudha, where passengers reportedly waited for more than 30 minutes. An empty train to Challaghatta arrived, but its doors did not open, leaving waiting passengers frustrated.
Passengers from the affected train were eventually asked to get off at Cubbon Park station. According to commuters, train operators informed them that the doors of the earlier train were not opening or closing correctly, making it unsafe to continue the journey. Officials also reportedly told passengers that trains were running at slower speeds as a safety measure following recent technical issues and due to unusually heavy passenger traffic.
The delays caused severe overcrowding at Majestic, Cubbon Park, and Vidhana Soudha stations. Many commuters were unable to board packed trains, while some left the stations without travelling after hearing announcements about delays.
Several passengers also claimed that Metro staff did not provide information about the disruption and stopped people from taking photos and videos, increasing confusion and concern.
Reason behind the Service Disruption
A BMRCL official described the incident as only a door-related problem rather than a major technical failure. In an official statement, BMRCL said the train's doors did not close properly at Cubbon Park station. As a safety precaution, passengers were safely evacuated in about 17 minutes. The issue was later fixed by the Operations and Maintenance teams, although five train services were temporarily delayed.
