The much-awaited Pink Line of Bengaluru Metro is facing delays, raising doubts about its planned launch in May.

Reasons behind the delay of the Bengaluru Metro Pink Line
• One of the main reasons is the slow progress in crucial train trials before offering passenger services. Although construction of parts of the line, especially the elevated section, is mostly complete, the testing of trains has not progressed as planned. These trials are important to check safety, performance, and system efficiency. Without completing them, the metro line cannot be opened to the public.
• A key issue behind the delay is the late delivery of train sets by BEML, the company responsible for manufacturing them. The prototype train itself was delayed, which pushed back the entire testing schedule. Since metro systems require multiple rounds of testing and approvals, even a small delay in train delivery affects the overall timeline.
Bengaluru Metro Pink Line Trains to go Through Several Processes
Experts say that once the trains arrive, several tests, such as oscillation trials, braking tests, and safety checks, must be carried out, which usually take a few months, making it difficult to meet the May deadline. Therefore, officials are now uncertain whether even the first phase of the Pink Line can open on time. The line was already planned to open in stages, with the elevated stretch expected first, followed by the underground section later in 2026.
Commuters' Disappointment
As the Pink Line is an important project for Bengaluru, which will connect key areas from Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara and improve north-south travel across the city, the delays have disappointed commuters who were hoping for better connectivity and reduced traffic congestion.
