GBA to Build Multi-Level Parking at Bengaluru Metro Stations to Ease Congestion and Improve Safety

Bengaluru Metro passengers may soon see an end to the daily struggle of finding parking near metro stations. The city authorities plan to build multi-level parking complexes at several metro stations to address long-standing parking problems. This step aims to improve parking facilities, better manage traffic, and provide safer parking

options for commuters.

Management of Parking Areas

At present, parking at many metro stations is managed by private contractors. They usually use empty or open land near stations as temporary parking spaces. While this arrangement helps to some extent, it often leads to problems such as poor space management, a lack of proper security, and uneven facilities across stations. To overcome these issues, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has decided to take charge of developing modern parking buildings.

How Will New Parking Facilities Benefit?

These proposed multi-level parking complexes will be designed with better facilities and higher capacity. By allowing more vehicles to be parked within a smaller area, they are expected to reduce roadside parking and traffic congestion around busy metro stations. Officials also believe that organised parking will make the surroundings safer and smoother for both vehicles and pedestrians.

Official Meeting Regarding the Parking Spaces

In an important step forward, GBA Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has asked officials to prepare a detailed list of metro stations where such parking complexes can be built. This direction was given during a coordination meeting held on Tuesday, where different departments discussed the plan. The meeting included commissioners from five city municipal corporations, the Bengaluru Police Commissioner, and officials from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). Their presence shows that the project requires cooperation between multiple agencies.

For many years, commuters have demanded proper multi-level parking at metro stations, but earlier proposals did not move ahead. With this fresh push to identify suitable locations, there is renewed hope that the project will finally take shape and make metro travel more convenient.
