Bengaluru Metro: Two Additional Trains on Yellow Line to Improve Peak-Hour Frequency

12 noon, and again from 4 pm to 9 pm. With the addition of two more trains, BMRCL aims to reduce waiting time to about 5-6 minutes during busy hours and 10-12 minutes during less busy times. One extra train will also be kept ready as a backup for emergencies.

Bengaluru Metro's Yellow Line to Receive Two Additional Trains

Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL), based in West Bengal, is preparing to send two additional trains for this line. One train is currently being readied at the company's Uttarpara factory near Kolkata and is expected to be shipped by the end of this month. The second train will be sent in the first week of April, according to a senior BMRCL official. These additional trains will boost train frequency during peak hours on the Yellow Line, making travel convenient for commuters.

Trial Checks

After arriving, both trains will undergo the required 750-km trial run on the main tracks, a process that usually takes around two weeks. Once completed, the trains are expected to start service in May. With these additions, the total number of trains on the Yellow Line will increase from eight to ten.

Current Trainsets in Bengaluru

At present, eight trains operate on the 19.15-km stretch between RV Road and Bommasandra. This metro line, which opened in August last year, carries around one lakh passengers on weekdays. Despite this, many commuters are not satisfied with the current waiting times. During peak hours, trains run every nine minutes, while during non-peak hours, the gap increases to about 14 minutes.
