Bengaluru-Mangaluru Train Cancellations: SWR to Cancel Several Services during October

The South Western Railway (SWR) has announced the temporary cancellation of several day train services on the Bengaluru-Mangaluru and Bengaluru-Karwar routes during October. The trains will remain cancelled for about a month to allow track maintenance work and the movement of material trains on the Sakleshpur-Subrahmanya Road

Ghat section. However, the railway has decided to operate these trains during the Navaratri and Dasara holiday period to avoid inconvenience to passengers travelling during the festive season.

Bengaluru-Mangaluru Train Cancellations

The affected trains include the Yeshwantpur-Karwar-Yeshwantpur tri-weekly Express (Train Nos. 16515/16516), the Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Junction Gomateshwara tri-weekly Express (Train Nos. 16575/16576), and the Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Junction weekly Express (Train Nos. 16539/16540). These trains will remain cancelled on selected dates between October 4 and November 4, as announced by the South Western Railway, Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) and Southern Railway.

Railway Division to Carry out Conduct Maintenance Work

According to Mysuru Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Mudit Mittal, the maintenance work on the Yadakumari-Siribagilu section has been pending for a long time. The railway will carry out ballast tamping, a process that levels and strengthens the track by packing stones under the railway sleepers. The work became necessary after the ballast became uneven, and a recent landslip also affected the ghat section. The DRM said the railway requires this period to complete maintenance safely, as the tamping machine has to move slowly through the section every day. He added that this was the minimum time needed to finish the work.

To reduce inconvenience to passengers, the railway waited until the reservation booking period had closed before announcing the cancellations. This helped minimise the number of passengers affected by the changes.
