Southern Railway has decided to double the capacity of the Bengaluru-Ernakulam Vande Bharat Express ahead of the festive travel season to meet passengers' growing demand. upgraded train is expected to be introduced in the first week of July, just before the busy Onam travel period.

The coach expansion will add 598 extra seats on every trip, making it easier for passengers travelling between Karnataka and Kerala to get confirmed tickets. Since its launch in November last year, the train has received an overwhelming response, with tickets often getting fully booked well in advance. Railway officials decided to increase the capacity after observing consistently high passenger demand on the route.

Train Features & Upgradation

With the upgrade, the train will have 14 AC Chair Car coaches and 2 Executive Chair Car coaches instead of the present 7 AC Chair Car coaches and 1 Executive Chair Car coach. This will nearly double the number of passengers who can travel on each journey without changing the train's schedule or travel time.

The Bengaluru-Ernakulam Vande Bharat Express has become a popular choice because it offers a fast, comfortable, and convenient daytime journey between the two cities. It is widely used by business travellers, students, tourists, and families travelling between Karnataka and Kerala. The train has also helped reduce travel time compared to many conventional express trains.

How will this Change Benefit Passengers?

The capacity increase is expected to provide major relief during the upcoming festive season, especially for passengers travelling home for Onam. Railway officials believe the additional coaches will reduce waiting lists, improve ticket availability, and make travel more convenient. The move is part of Indian Railways' efforts to strengthen passenger services on high-demand routes and ensure smoother travel during peak holiday periods.
