Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway: Faster Travel Now Possible with 68-km Open Stretch

The newly opened Bengaluru-Chennai expressway is making travel easier for people in Karnataka. A 68-km toll-free section, running from Hoskote to Bethamangala, is now open. Around 1,600 to 2,000 vehicles are using this road every day. Right now, drivers are taking a village road to exit the expressway and reach Mulbagal before continuing towards the Andhra Pradesh border. This new road is an important part of the expressway project, helping many commuters save time on their journey.

Better Connectivity and Economic Growth

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari recently spoke about the expressway's impact during his visit to Bengaluru. He said that this project would boost business between Bengaluru and Chennai and reduce traffic on the existing highway. He also promised that any concerns from the Karnataka government about road projects would be handled quickly. The expressway is expected to improve travel and support economic development in the region.

High-Speed Travel Between Bengaluru and Chennai

The expressway is part of a larger 260-km route that runs through Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. It will end near Chennai at Sriperumbudur. This four-lane expressway is designed for high-speed travel, with a speed limit of 120 kmph. It is the first greenfield expressway in South India, built at a cost of ₹17,900 crore. Once fully open, the expressway will reduce travel time between Bengaluru and Chennai from seven hours to just three. This will make travel between the two cities much faster and more convenient.

Expressway Progress in Karnataka

The construction of the expressway in Karnataka was done in three phases. The first section, from Hoskote to Malur, is 27.1 km long. The second phase, from Malur to Bangarpet, is also 27.1 km long. The final phase is a 17.5-km stretch leading to Bethamangala. All three sections are now open for public use, giving travelers a smooth driving experience. The last 3 km of the 71-km Karnataka section is expected to be finished by the end of the year. The full expressway, including the parts beyond Karnataka, will be completed soon after.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will soon inaugurate the expressway. This project is an important step in improving transport in South India. It will help people travel quickly and easily, reduce road traffic, and create more business opportunities. As the expressway nears full completion, it is set to change travel between Bengaluru and Chennai, making it faster and more efficient.
