To solve Bengaluru's growing traffic problems, the Karnataka government has decided to start a big road project. The cabinet, led by Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, has approved plans for a twin tunnel road. This project will cost around Rs 17,780 crore and is expected to help reduce traffic in many busy parts of the city. The announcement came after a recent cabinet meeting, showing the government's serious focus on city development.

Twin Tunnel from Hebbal to Silk Board
The new twin tunnel will stretch from Esteem Mall Junction in Hebbal to Silk Board Junction. The total distance will be 16.745 kilometers. This route is very crowded every day, and the tunnel is expected to make travel much smoother for thousands of commuters. By choosing this specific route, the government aims to reduce traffic jams in one of Bengaluru's busiest corridors.
Global Tender and Construction Model
Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar explained that the Chief Minister has been given the power to choose the right model for building the tunnel. It could be a hybrid model or any other suitable option. This decision will be based on technical studies. To make sure the tunnel is built with the best quality and design, the government will invite experts from around the world through a global tender. This step shows the government's aim to build a world-class road tunnel in Bengaluru.
Solution to Rainwater Issues Also Planned
Apart from the tunnel, the government is also working to solve Bengaluru's rain-related problems. The city faces trouble during heavy rainfall, with water collecting on roads and causing damage. Shivakumar said that the government will find a long-term solution to this problem. A Rs 2,000 crore plan has already been made to develop better stormwater drains in the city. This will help prevent waterlogging and make roads safer during the rainy season.
Hope for a Better Bengaluru
This new twin tunnel road project and the stormwater drain development plan are important steps towards improving the city's infrastructure. These efforts come at a time when traffic jams and rain-related problems are major concerns for Bengaluru residents. The government's plan could become an example for other cities in India facing similar issues.
The Karnataka cabinet's decision to build the twin tunnel shows a clear and strong plan to improve life in Bengaluru. If completed as planned, this project could change how people travel in the city and help solve long-standing problems.
