Bengaluru Metro's Pink Line to Launch 42 Smart Coaches with Japan-Backed Funding

Bengaluru's metro system is getting ready for a major change. Soon, modern and driverless metro trains will run on the city's tracks. This is happening because of a new deal between Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) and BEML, a company that builds metro coaches. The deal is worth Rs 405 crore and includes 42 new coaches for the upcoming Pink Line.

Bengaluru Metro to Add 42 New Trains

These new metro coaches will use a modern system called Communication Based Train Control (CBTC), which helps trains run more safely and efficiently. This upgrade is expected to fix the current shortage of trains and improve metro service for thousands of daily commuters.

Pink Line Nears Completion

The Pink Line is a new metro line that will run for 21.76 kilometers from Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara. Work on this line is moving fast. So far, 96 percent of the tunneling work is finished. Construction is also going on for the metro stations and tracks. The Pink Line is expected to start running by 2026 and will help reduce the pressure on the already busy Purple and Green Lines.

The new deal between BMRCL and BEML will help end the train shortage by the end of next year. This will make the entire metro system work better and more smoothly.

Large Metro Expansion Plans

BMRCL is also planning a bigger expansion of the metro network. Earlier, it signed a deal to buy 318 metro coaches, which will be used in 53 train sets. Out of these, 16 train sets will be used on the Pink Line. Also, 23 new trains, including 7 with the CBTC system, will be added to serve this line.

This expansion is being planned to meet the needs of the growing number of passengers. The new coaches will have air conditioning, modern safety systems, and comfortable interiors to make the journey better for everyone.

Support from Japan and Arrival of Yellow Line Trains

Japan's agency JICA has also given support to Bengaluru's metro growth. It is providing Rs 3,177 crore to help with the metro projects. Meanwhile, two driverless trains from China have already arrived in Bengaluru for the Yellow Line. This shows how the city is using new technology to improve public transport.

The Yellow Line has been delayed because trains took longer to arrive. This new agreement for more coaches will help avoid such delays in the future. The Pink Line and the two-phase Blue Line are both expected to open in 2026.

Metro Travel to Get Better in Bengaluru

With all these changes, Bengaluru's metro is about to become faster, more modern, and more comfortable. The Pink Line, in particular, is an exciting development that will improve daily travel for many people in the city.
