Temporary Road Closure

Following the avalanche, the Manali-Kelong road was temporarily closed for about an hour. The BRO quickly responded and managed to reopen the road in a short period. Despite the road being cleared, the Manali-Kelong route remains at high risk of avalanches due to recent snowfall. As a precaution, authorities have imposed restrictions on tourist travel to Dhundi to ensure safety.

Weather Alert Issued

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain and snowfall expected across Himachal Pradesh from March 12 to March 14. According to forecasts, the weather is expected to change significantly, with rain in some areas and light snow in mountainous regions starting on Monday and continuing until March 15.

Before this weather shift, the state experienced clear skies and sunshine until Sunday afternoon. However, by the afternoon, clouds began to form over high-altitude areas, accompanied by cold winds that resulted in a noticeable drop in temperature.

Upcoming Weather Changes

Kuldeep Srivastava, Director of the Meteorological Centre in Shimla, mentioned that light rain is expected in some areas on March 10 and March 11, along with light snowfall in select high-altitude regions. The main period of heavy rain and snowfall is expected from March 12 to March 14 due to an active Western disturbance, which is likely to persist until March 15.

This shift is expected to bring a significant change from the previously sunny weather that had been observed in the state.

Current Temperature Conditions

Despite the weather changes, there has been little change in maximum temperatures compared to the previous day. However, the recent clear skies had led to a gradual increase in minimum temperatures.

Currently, regions such as Kelong, Kukumseri, and Tabo are experiencing sub-zero temperatures. Meanwhile, other areas have seen a slight increase in daytime temperatures by two to three degrees Celsius. This increase has brought some relief from the intense cold experienced during the mornings and evenings in the plains.

Travelers heading towards higher altitudes are advised to stay updated with weather reports and follow instructions provided by local authorities. The yellow alert indicates potential risks, so it's important to plan trips carefully to avoid unexpected disruptions.

With the expected shift in weather patterns, residents and tourists should prepare for rainy conditions, snowfall, and possible roadblocks in the coming days.
