A new Pedestrian Friendliness Assessment Report has found that the footpaths around five Pune Metro stations: Vanaz, Anand Nagar, Ideal Colony, Nal Stop, and Garware College are in very poor condition. The report covers a four-kilometre stretch along the Ramwadi-Vanaz route and was submitted to the Maha-Metro administration last

Friday.
Pune Metro's Blocked Footpaths
According to the study, many footpaths are unsafe for walkers. Several pavements are blocked by food vendors, while others are damaged because of growing tree roots. Garbage lying on the walkways also makes it difficult for people to walk comfortably or safely. The route from Yoganand Park Housing Society in Shikshak Nagar to Ramchandra Mane Chowk, which leads to Vanaz station, is particularly important because it has schools, shops, bus stops, and residential buildings. Yet, the footpaths here remain in poor shape.
Major Roads of Pune
The report also points out four major roads, Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari Road, Nanasaheb Sutar Road, Swami Vivekananda Road, and Shripati Sutar Road, that face heavy traffic, potholes, and missing or broken footpaths. These issues make it hard for commuters to reach nearby Metro stations on foot.
Pune Metro's Survey
The survey aims to improve facilities for people who walk or want to walk to the Metro stations, especially because parking space at the stations is limited. Many passengers depend on buses, autos, two-wheelers, or walking to reach their nearest station. Harshad Abhyankar, director of Save Pune Traffic Movement, said the report was part of Maha-Metro's "Walk, Bus, Cycle and Metro" campaign. The findings have been shared with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), and more than 3,000 citizens have already written to PMC requesting better pedestrian amenities.
Maha-Metro's administration has also passed the information to the PMC road department and asked them to take quick action to improve the footpaths.
