Arunachal Pradesh is currently grappling with devastating floods in the Namsai district and Wakro circle of Lohit district, following continuous downpours over the last five days. A high flood alert has been issued as all rivers in Namsai and Wakro have surged beyond danger marks, impacting 34 villages¹. Residents in affected areas such as Wakhettiang, Manyuliang, Pukhuri, and others have been urged to remain vigilant and avoid riverbanks.

Siang River and Tributaries

Heavy rainfall in the Siang valley has caused the Siang River and its tributaries to swell, leading to landslides that have disrupted surface communication along highways. Low-lying areas and crop fields in Pasighat, Ruksin, Mirem, and Bilat are submerged.

Weather Alert

The Meteorological Centre in Itanagar has issued a red alert for districts including Changlang, Namsai, Lohit, and East Siang, forecasting heavy to very heavy rains with thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places.

Infrastructure Damage

In a recent calamity, a Bailey bridge connecting strategic locations in Kurung Kumey district was washed away by flash floods near Kororu village, linking Koloring to Damin at the India-China border. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is swiftly mobilizing resources to restore this vital link.

NHIDCL Travel Advisory

The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has issued a travel advisory due to severe disruptions caused by landslides and flooding across Arunachal Pradesh.

Affected Routes and Disruptions

NH-13 from Demwe-Brahmakund Tri Junction to Parashuram Kund-Wakro in Lohit District and NH-113 covering Ram Mandir-Tidding-Khupa-Hayuliang-Hawai in Anjaw District are significantly affected by multiple landslides and high flood levels.
