Mumbai's Metro Line-3, known as the Aqua Line, carried over 38 lakh passengers in October, showing a steady rise in daily ridership on the city's first underground metro route, officials said on Sunday. According to the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), the 33.5 km-long corridor runs between Cuffe Parade in

South Mumbai and Aarey JVLR in the western suburbs. It recorded a total footfall of 38.63 lakh commuters last month, and the line was fully opened to the public on October 9 after being inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Aqua Line Connection
In just 22 days, from October 9 to October 31, around 33.33 lakh passengers used the Aqua Line, MMRC officials said. On average, about 1.41 lakh people travel on weekdays, with the highest single-day ridership reaching 1.82 lakh since the launch. The Aqua Line connects several key business and administrative areas of Mumbai, including the Bandra-Kurla Complex, and important railway stations like CSMT and Churchgate. It has 27 stations in total, with all except Aarey JVLR being underground.
Digital Ticketing Initiative
To make travel easier, MMRC has introduced digital ticketing through WhatsApp on +91 98730 16836. Passengers can also scan QR codes available at the stations to buy tickets instantly, reducing the need for paper tickets and saving time. Officials stated the growing ridership reflects how the new underground line has become an important transport link for commuters traveling between South and Western Mumbai. With its fast connectivity and modern facilities, the Aqua Line is helping reduce road traffic and providing a comfortable, eco-friendly travel option for thousands of daily passengers.
