DMRC Deploys 76 AI-Enabled X-BIS Scanners Across Key Delhi Metro Stations to Boost Passenger Safety

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has introduced 76 new AI-enabled X-BIS baggage scanners at important stations to improve passenger safety. All 84 stations being developed under Phase IV will also receive these advanced machines. These next-generation scanners have high-quality cameras placed at both entry and exit points, helping security

staff track how bags are handled. They also have built-in memory to save inspection videos, which can be reviewed later if needed. With artificial intelligence added to the system, overall security checks have become faster and more accurate.

Improvement in Surveillance With New Technology

According to a DMRC official, the new technology improves surveillance and helps prevent people from removing luggage without authorization. The AI system can clearly detect dangerous items like knives, guns, and explosives. If anything suspicious appears on the screen, the system immediately highlights and labels it so security personnel can take quick action.

These upgraded scanners have already been installed at major stations, including Barakhamba Road, Chandni Chowk, Central Secretariat, Chawri Bazar, Hauz Khas, and Vishwavidyalaya. The rollout is happening in phases, replacing older scanners to provide a safer and smoother commute for passengers.

Strengthening of Onboard Security

Moreover, the Delhi Metro has strengthened onboard security. All trains in its fleet of more than 350 coaches include separate women's compartments, emergency alarms, and close to 11,000 CCTV cameras. Another 13,000 cameras are installed across stations, keeping an eye on entrances, ticket counters, platforms, escalators, and other key areas.

DMRC is also upgrading these CCTV systems to more advanced IP-based technology with better video analytics. Older trains from Phase I, which originally lacked cameras, are now being fitted with them as part of their mid-life upgrades.

Under Phase IV, nearly 103 km of new metro lines are being built across six corridors. Three major corridors are already under construction, with some expected to open later this year and the rest next year.
