The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) is making great progress in improving metro services in Gujarat. One of the latest developments is the trial runs on the new route from Sector-1 to the Secretariat. These trials are almost complete, and in April, a detailed inspection will take place. This inspection will cover the Sector-10A and Secretariat stations and will also be reviewed by the Commissioner of Metro.

The goal of this expansion is to make it easier for travelers to reach the Secretariat from different areas. Those coming from Ahmedabad will need to change trains at Thaltej, while passengers from Vastral will need to change at the Income Tax Old High Court station.
Metro Expansion and Improved Access
To meet the increasing demand for better metro services, GMRC launched Phase-2 of the metro project. This phase includes the route from Motera to the Gandhinagar Mahatma Mandir. The stretch from Motera to Sector-1, along with the connection to Gift City, is now operational. However, to ensure that travelers can reach the Secretariat directly, GMRC quickly completed the electrification work on the route from Sector-1 to Sector-10A and the Secretariat station. As a result, trial runs have already begun on this new section.
Future Metro Plans and Connectivity
GMRC is also working to connect the Secretariat station to Mahatma Mandir. Around 70% of this work is already finished, and the remaining part is expected to be completed by December. This connection will allow smooth metro travel from Ahmedabad to Mahatma Mandir, making daily commuting much easier. Additionally, the metro line will provide better access to Akshardham, which is just a kilometer away from the nearest metro station. Visitors to this famous site will have a comfortable travel option via metro.
Current Metro Network and Future Openings
At present, the metro runs across a 21 km stretch and covers a total of 28 km with 22 stations. The operational routes include Motera to Sector-1 and GNLU to Gift City. Of the 15 planned stations up to Sector-1, eight are already in use, and seven more will open by June. The remaining stations, including the route from the Secretariat to Mahatma Mandir, are expected to be operational by December.
Metro Timings and Travel Convenience
For passengers traveling between APMC and Sector-1, metro services are available from 8 am to 7 pm. The journey takes around 30 to 40 minutes, making it a quick and convenient option for daily commuters and visitors.
A Step Towards Better Transport
The metro expansion project is a big step towards improving public transport in Gujarat. Once completed, it will offer a more efficient and comfortable way to travel across the city. The new metro routes will make places like the Secretariat and Mahatma Mandir easier to reach, benefiting both residents and tourists.
