Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated Phase 2 of the Ahmedabad Metro by flagging off metro services from the Mahatma Mandir Metro Station. The new metro section is expected to improve travel and connectivity between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.

Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2 Expansion
Sharing photos and updates on social media, Modi said the government is committed to improving infrastructure in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. He added that the newly opened stretch from Sector 10A to Mahatma Mandir will make daily travel easier and improve the quality of life for residents. According to the Gujarat Chief Minister's Office, the newly inaugurated section covers around 7.8 kilometres. Seven metro stations have started operations under this phase. These include Mahatma Mandir, Sector-24, Sector-16, Old Secretariat, Akshardham, Secretariat, and Sector-10 stations.
With the opening of this route, passengers can now travel smoothly across the 28.25-km metro corridor connecting Motera in Ahmedabad to Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar. Officials said the metro will help people travel faster, more safely, and comfortably. It is also expected to reduce heavy traffic between the two cities.
Ahmedabad Metro's Urban Transport
The Gujarat government said the metro project supports the Prime Minister's vision of modern and eco-friendly urban transport. Officials also said the project will strengthen infrastructure development and support the goal of an "Atmanirbhar Bharat" or self-reliant India.
