Bengaluru's metro system, Namma Metro, is planning to bring in a full set of 21 new six-coach trains to improve service and reduce crowding, especially on busy routes. These trains are being built by China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) and will run mainly on the Green Line, which runs from Madavara to Silk Institute.

New Arrival of Trains
The idea is that once all 21 new trains arrive and start running on the Green Line, the older trains currently on that line will be moved to the Purple Line, which is the most crowded metro corridor in the city, running between Whitefield and Challaghatta. This shift will help increase the number of trains on the Purple Line, making it less packed and reducing waiting times for passengers.
One of the new CRRC trains has already arrived and is being tested at night on the Green Line. Officials hope to finish testing and get all safety approvals from organisations like the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) and the Railway Board by early 2026. Once approved, these trains can start carrying passengers on the Green Line.
Instead of splitting maintenance facilities, all the new trains will be looked after at the Peenya depot, which serves the Green Line. This will make repairs and servicing easier and more efficient.
Shifting of Older Trains to Purple Line
By sending older trains to the Purple Line and using modern ones on the Green Line, Bengaluru Metro officials aim to balance train availability, improve services on the busiest lines, and make daily travel more comfortable for commuters.
