In a significant move to ensure the health and safety of travelers, 150 railway stations across India have been awarded the 'Eat Right Station' certification by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). This prestigious recognition highlights the unwavering commitment of these stations to offer safe, hygienic, and nutritious food choices to millions of passengers daily.

The health ministry's statement emphasized the FSSAI's Eat Right Station initiative's role in enhancing access to healthier food options within the country's busy transit points. The certification process entails comprehensive audits of food vendors, education for food handlers on maintaining hygiene and sanitation, and promoting awareness among consumers about making healthier food choices.
Stations Leading by Example
Among the stations that have achieved this commendable status are New Delhi, Varanasi, Kolkata, Ujjain, Ayodhya Cantt, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Kozhikode, Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, Bhubaneswar, Vadodara, Mysuru City, Bhopal, Igatpuri, and Chennai. These locations have effectively met the rigorous standards set by the FSSAI, ensuring that travelers have access to food that is not only safe but also nutritious.
Metro Stations Join the Movement
Expanding the scope of the initiative, six metro stations have also been distinguished as 'Eat Right Stations'. These include Noida Sector 51, Esplanade (Kolkata), IIT Kanpur, Botanical Garden (Noida), and Noida Electronic City. This extension underscores the initiative's success and its potential to enhance food safety and nutrition across various modes of public transportation.
The 'Eat Right Station' certification is a testament to the concerted efforts of the FSSAI, station authorities, and food vendors to elevate the standard of food safety and hygiene in India's public transport systems. By doing so, they are not only protecting the health of travelers but also setting a benchmark for others to follow.
With this initiative, the FSSAI is leading the way in transforming India's public places into zones where access to better food options is a given. As the number of certified stations grows, it is a clear indication that India is on the right track towards promoting public health and well-being, especially in spaces that serve as lifelines for millions of commuters every day.
