There are several forts in India that take you back in time. Vishalgad Fort is one such monument that is worth a visit to revisit the past. This fort is one of the important forts of Maratha Empire, and is located in Maharashtra.

The fort was known as Khilna or Khelna fort. After emperor Shivaji conquered it, he named it Vishalgad which translates to "the grand fort". Originally belonging to Adil Shahi dynasty of Bijapur, the fort was attacked several times by Shivaji, before it was finally conquered.
