Gurugram's Metro Expansion: Urgent Call to Connect Dwarka Expressway with Delhi's Airport Metro

As Gurugram's metro network expands, many areas along the Dwarka Expressway will be included, with residents demanding better connectivity to Delhi and nearby regions. Dwarka Expressway to Connect Several Metro Lines

In his letter, Singh highlighted that several residential colonies have developed along the 29-km-long Dwarka Expressway, which connects Gurugram with Delhi and nearby roads, including Pataudi Road, Basai Road, and Farrukhnagar Road. He said connecting these areas to the metro would greatly benefit thousands of residents who commute daily. The proposal to extend the Airport and Dwarka Metro lines to the Dwarka Expressway, possibly linking them to the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) near Kherki Daula on NH-48, was recently discussed with NCRTC officials during a Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority meeting.

Residents' Opinions Regarding the Expansion

Ashok Dutta, president of the Paras Dews RWA in Sector 106, said linking the expressway to key metro stations would ease travel to Gurugram and Delhi. Currently, residents rely on Yashobhoomi and Dwarka Sector 21 stations, which are far and lack proper public transport. Gaurav Prakash, a resident of Sector 109, noted that many people moved to the area for its proximity to Delhi Airport and Dwarka, but now struggle with poor connectivity despite modern infrastructure. He welcomed Singh's initiative, saying it's "better late than never."

At present, Gurugram Metro's Phase 1 runs 15.2 km from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9, with a 1.85 km spur to Sector 101 near the expressway. Phase 2 will extend another 13 km up to Cyber City, linking key residential and business hubs.
