Travellers going home for Christmas and New Year will get some relief this year, as Indian Railways has decided to run two special trains between Guwahati and Aizawl. The announcement was shared by Mizoram Rajya Sabha MP K Vanlalvena, who said the move will help manage the heavy rush during

the festive season.
Guwahati to Aizawl Special Trains
According to Vanlalvena, he requested Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to introduce additional train services on the Guwahati-Aizawl (Sairang) route, as a large number of passengers are expected to travel during this time. The railway minister accepted the request, and the special trains have now been approved.
The special trains from Guwahati to Aizawl will run on December 22 and December 24. For the return journey, trains will operate from Aizawl to Guwahati on December 23 and December 25. Each train will have 14 coaches, which will help accommodate more passengers and reduce the pressure on regular services.
How Will the Special Trains Benefit Commuters?
The MP said these trains will be especially helpful for people from Mizoram and Manipur who live in Delhi and other major cities. Many of them find it difficult to get direct tickets to Aizawl, and travelling through Guwahati will now be a more convenient option.
He also pointed out that Mizoram has become an important transit route for members of the Kuki-Zo community from Manipur. Due to ongoing ethnic violence, many people are avoiding the Imphal route and are choosing to travel through Mizoram as it is considered safer.
Vanlalvena said the special trains are not only meant for holiday travel but also to support people who have been displaced or are searching for a safe way to return to their homes.
Local officials have welcomed the decision, saying it will reduce overcrowding and make travel smoother during the festive season. Passengers are advised to book early, as tickets are expected to sell out quickly.
