On January 12, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially opened a new section of the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro that connects Sachivalaya to the Mahatma Mandir Convention Centre (MMCC) in Gandhinagar. This new stretch is part of Phase II of the metro project and completes an important link between Ahmedabad and

the state capital, helping passengers travel more easily between these cities.
Launch Event
During the launch event, PM Modi flagged off a metro train from the Mahatma Mandir metro station, with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, and Governor Acharya Devvrat also present. This ceremony marks the completion of the remaining portion of Phase II, which had been under construction for some time.
Metro Ride from Mahatma Mandir to Sachivalaya
After the inauguration, the chief minister and deputy chief minister took a metro ride from Mahatma Mandir to Sachivalaya. While on board, they spoke with passengers and students to hear their views and feedback about the metro service.
PM Modi arrived in Ahmedabad by air and then traveled by car to the Mahatma Mandir station. Along the way, large crowds gathered and cheered as his convoy passed. Many people lined the route from the MMCC area to the metro station, showing strong enthusiasm for the event. Modi waved to the crowd before entering the new metro station and officially starting the train service on this stretch.
After the inauguration, the Prime Minister went to Lok Bhavan in Gandhinagar, where he stayed for the night. The opening of this metro section is a big step forward in improving transport between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar and is expected to make daily travel more convenient for many commuters.
