Passengers traveling between Shimla and Kalka may soon enjoy a much more comfortable ride, as air-conditioned trains are expected to start running on this scenic route. During a recent inspection, Northern Railways General Manager Ashok Verma took a close look at the coaches and pointed out a few issues that need fixing. He has now directed the engineering team to sort out these problems quickly and make sure the coaches are ready with modern amenities.

Comfort and Safety Upgrades in the Works
The new AC coaches will come packed with features aimed at making travel safer and more pleasant. Passengers can look forward to CCTV cameras for better security, fire alert systems for safety, and bright linear LED lights inside the coaches. To suit the changing mountain weather, the coaches will also have a heating and cooling system.
These changes are designed to improve the overall experience for travelers, but railway officials have said that the fare for these upgraded coaches will be announced only after all work is completed. However, passengers should expect a small increase in ticket prices because of these new facilities.
Inspection Reveals Coach Flaws
During his visit, Ashok Verma discovered multiple issues in the train coaches. The cooling system in the AC coaches was not functioning optimally, with temperatures not dropping below 25 degrees Celsius. Additionally, the air delivery duct was partially blocked, affecting cold air circulation. The materials used in the air ducts were substandard, contributing to inefficiencies. Furthermore, there was no mechanism to open emergency windows in the AC coaches. Engineers have been tasked with rectifying these flaws to enhance passenger safety and comfort.
Enhanced Features for Passenger Comfort
Despite these issues, the newly constructed AC coaches boast several modern features. They include 360-degree CCTV cameras for security and anti-ultraviolet coated window glass for passenger protection. Power windows and linear fans further enhance comfort during travel. Once all identified flaws are addressed, these upgraded trains will operate on the Shimla-Kalka route. This initiative aims to provide tourists with a pleasant travel experience while ensuring safety and convenience through state-of-the-art facilities.
The introduction of these advanced trains marks a significant step towards improving railway services in this region. Passengers can look forward to enjoying enhanced amenities that promise a more enjoyable journey through picturesque landscapes.
