The upcoming Kochi Metro Pink Line is set to combine modern public transport with Kerala's rich cultural heritage. The 11.2-km Phase II corridor will connect Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium with Kakkanad and Infopark through 11 stations. Each station is planned around a different cultural theme representing Kerala's traditions, art, crafts, and history.
The stations will introduce passengers to different aspects of Kerala's cultural identity through their designs and themes. This approach follows the cultural treatment already used in several stations of Kochi Metro's existing corridor.
Kochi Metro Pink Line
The Pink Line will begin at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and move towards Kakkanad. Palarivattom Junction will showcase Kerala's cartooning tradition under the theme "Cartoons - Lines of Laughter." Alinchuvadu will highlight the state's famous handloom industry, particularly the traditional kasavu fabric.
Chembumukku station will focus on Kerala's musical instruments, while Vazhakkala will showcase the traditional lamps of the state. Padamughal will highlight the history of the coir industry, often associated with Kerala's traditional economy.
Civil Station Junction at Kakkanad will feature the famous Aranmula Kannadi, a traditional metal mirror known for its unique craftsmanship. Cochin SEZ station will showcase Kerala's traditional ornaments.
Further along the route, Chittethukara will highlight Vallam Kali, Kerala's famous snake-boat races. Kinfra Park will celebrate Kalaripayattu, the state's traditional martial art. Infopark station will showcase Kathakali, Kerala's internationally recognised classical dance-drama.
The journey will end at SmartCity, where Theyyam, a prominent ritual art form of northern Kerala, will be the central theme.
Through these designs, the Pink Line is expected to offer commuters and visitors a glimpse of Kerala's diverse traditions while also improving connectivity to major residential, business and IT hubs in Kakkanad and Infopark.
