Hyderabad commuters may soon be able to use a single pass for travelling on both Metro trains and Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) buses. The initiative is aimed at making daily public transport easier and more convenient for people who use both services during their journeys.
Hyderabad Metro's New Ticketing System
Telangana Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju has directed officials to introduce the joint Metro-RTC pass without delay. The decision was taken during a coordination meeting held at Metro Rail Bhavan in Begumpet on September 6. Officials from Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) and TGSRTC informed him that the technical arrangements for the new system were already in place.
The officials have been asked to introduce both daily and monthly joint passes. They will also work on finalising a common fare structure before the system is launched. The aim is to allow passengers to shift between Metro trains and RTC buses without having to purchase separate tickets or passes for each service.
The common ticketing system was first proposed earlier this year, when officials were asked to explore an integrated mobility system covering Metro and RTC services. A common mobile application and different pass options, including daily, weekly and monthly passes, were also discussed.
The new facility could be particularly useful for commuters who use an RTC bus to reach a Metro station and then continue their journey by train, or make the reverse transfer. It could reduce the inconvenience of buying separate tickets and encourage greater use of public transport.
During the meeting, Jaju also reviewed the progress of Hyderabad Metro projects. He asked officials to speed up preparatory work for the 7.5-km Old City Metro corridor, including road-widening activities. Later, he travelled by Metro from Begumpet to Paradise and inspected commercial spaces and parking facilities at stations.
