Nagaland, a state in the northeast of India, got its second railway station after a gap of over 100 years, on Friday. It was a historic moment for Nagaland with the commencement of new train facilities at the Shokhuvi village.

Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio inaugurated the Donyi Polo Express from Shokhuvi Railway Station on Friday. Dimapur Railway Station was inaugurated in the year 1903 and it is in the heart of the commercial center of Nagaland. And after 119 years Nagaland finally got its second railway station.

The Donyi Polo Express ran on a daily basis between Guwahati in Assam & Naharlagun which is in Arunachal Pradesh. The train service has now been stretched till Shokhuvi, which is a few kilometers from Dimapur. With this, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh will be directly connected with the extension of Donyi Polo Express till Shokhuvi Station.

Chief Minister of Nagaland tweeted "Today is a historic day for Nagaland. We're getting the 2nd railway terminal passenger services after a gap of more than 100 years on the Dhansari -Shokhuvi railway line. Elated to flag-off Donyi Polo Express from Shokhuvi station, an alternate route for Nagaland & Manipur passengers to Guwahati".

Another tweet followed by the above, which was tweeted by CM goes "I request @RailNf to ensure that the Dimapur Railway Station gets its due share of development so that it expands further and continues to serve not only the residents of Nagaland but also of Manipur & the neighboring districts of Assam".

General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Anshul Gupta expressed that it is a proud moment for the Indian Railways and Northeast Frontier Railway which are working together to connect all the capitals of the northeastern states in India. In 2016, the foundation stone for the 90 km long broad-gauge route from Dhansiri in Assam to Zubza in the Kohima district of Nagaland. The work is underway for the same and the deadline was extended from 2020 to 2024.
