To boost connectivity and facilitate pilgrimage, Union Minister Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, overseeing Information and Broadcasting and Youth and Sports Affairs, has shared a significant announcement. The extension of train services from Una in Himachal Pradesh to Haridwar is anticipated to be a game-changer, promising improved transportation facilities and enhanced pilgrimage options for passengers.
Underlining the government's dedication to bolstering railway infrastructure, Minister Anurag Thakur shed light on various initiatives led by the Modi government. He emphasized the significant investment in expanding the railway network in Himachal Pradesh, showcasing a commitment to fortifying connectivity and supporting economic growth in the state. Anurag Thakur highlighted the approval of Rs 1838 crore for railway expansion in Himachal Pradesh for the financial year 2023-24 as a clear demonstration of the government's earnest efforts.
Detailing the budget allocation, Thakur stated, "The government is leaving no stone unturned, from introducing new trains to crucial infrastructure development. A notable Rs 1838 crore has been sanctioned for railway expansion in Himachal Pradesh for the financial year 2023-24. This includes Rs 1000 crore for the strategically significant Bhanupalli-Bilaspur-Beri railway line, Rs 450 crore for the Chandigarh-Baddi railway line, and Rs 452 crore for the Nangal-Talwara railway line. Remarkably, this allocation is 17 times more than during the years 2009-2014 under the UPA regime."
Currently, the state is witnessing progress on four projects totaling Rs 19556 crore, covering a distance of 258 km. Minister Anurag Thakur underscored the immense benefits of these initiatives for the people of the region, reaffirming the government's holistic development agenda.
Expressing his delight, Minister Anurag Thakur shared, "I am pleased to announce that the Railway Minister has approved the extension of Una Himachal-Saharanpur MEMU. This train, previously running from Una to Saharanpur, will now extend its services from Una to Haridwar. This decision is expected to provide excellent transportation facilities to passengers, significantly improving connectivity."
As the representative of the Hamirpur parliamentary constituency and Himachal Pradesh at the Centre, Thakur acknowledged the significance of Haridwar as a major religious destination, particularly for pilgrims from Himachal Pradesh. The extension of the Una Himachal-Saharanpur MEMU train to Haridwar is seen as a thoughtful step to cater to the needs of passengers, especially those embarking on religious pilgrimages.
