The World's Highest Lord Shiva Temple, Tungnath, has caused the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to conduct a recent investigation that has raised serious concerns.
According to the research, the temple has shifted by 5 to 6 degrees, & the idols including other minor structures in the complex have shifted by ten degrees as well, raising questions about the temple's stability.
In the Tungnath temple, Lord Shiva has been regarded as the third Kedar of the Panch Kedars constructed by the Katyuri kings in the eighth century. This temple is both a sacred site and a stunning tourist destination where visitors and devotees flock all year long.
Do you know that Tungnath, often known as "Mini Switzerland," is the highest Shiva temple in the world and is governed by the Badri Kedar Temple Committee (BKTC). The temple is not just a place of worship but also a significant cultural and historical site. The temple is also a popular trekking destination, and its tilt could have an impact on the tourism industry in the region.

This temple, which faces north, is situated in the Rudraprayag district of the Garhwal Himalayas at a height of 12,800 feet. As of right now, ASI representatives have informed the central government of the findings and have recommended that it be included in the list of protected monuments.
Additionally, the government has begun the process of designating it as a monument of national importance & has sent out a notification asking for public comments or objections as a part of the protocol.
Superintendent Archaeologist of Dehradun, Manoj Kumar Saxena has expressed major concerns over the temple's tilting, which could lead to issues in the future. In order to determine the cause of the tilting and damage, a temple inspection is conducted.

If the damage can be instantly remedied, the report stated that the ASI will identify the primary cause of it. Additionally, detailed data will be generated following an assessment of the temple's grounds.
The ASI officials are also investigating the causes of the temple's bottom portion's sliding and subsidence, which could be the reason for its tilting, at the same time. There is also news that if necessary the foundation stone which will come out as damaged might get replaces as per officials but this will happen only after consultation with the experts.
