On Vijayadashami, the trial run for the Gandhinagar metro began, covering the stretch from Sachivalaya to Mahatma Mandir. Metro Rail work has seen growth with time under the guidance of Gujarat's Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Previously, the trial was running up to Sachivalaya, but it has been extended to include

five stations, including Akshardham, Old Sachivalaya, Sector 16, Sector 24, and Mahatma Mandir.
Metro Services to Function from 2026
After the successful trial run, the Metro Rail Commissioner plans to send the necessary paperwork to CMRS (Central Metro Railway Safety) for approval. Officials hope that by the New Year (Nutan Varsh), metro services will be running up to Mahatma Mandir. Once fully functional, the metro will run through 53 stations on a 68-kilometre corridor linking Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, aiming to provide a more affordable, comfortable, and sustainable travel option.
A Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi
On the same day, the Chief Minister paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi in Porbandar at his birthplace, Kirti Mandir, as part of the celebrations for Gandhi's birth anniversary. He honored Gandhi's role in India's freedom movement, referring to Gandhi's use of khadi and Swadeshi principles. He also extended greetings to people on Vijayadashami, a festival that signifies the victory of truth over falsehood. The metro trial run to Mahatma Mandir is a big step toward making the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar metro fully operational soon.
